Ingredients:

  • 300g beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 200g broccoli florets
  • 150g basmati rice
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Skillet or wok
  • Pot for rice
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Instructions:

  • Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions, typically using a 1:1.5 rice to water ratio. Set aside when done.
  • In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Add the sliced beef and marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  • In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the marinated beef to the skillet and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Add the water and cover to steam for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Return the beef to the skillet with the broccoli, and stir everything together. Drizzle with sesame oil if using, and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  • Serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry over a bed of basmati rice.
